JCT Core Advisory Group FAQ's!
Chastity Singleton, of the Core Advisory group, wrote this wonderful list of Frequently Asked Questions. If you are interested in learning more of what to expect by joining the team, these questions and answers can help you understand what roles we try to fill as a team.
Q: What is the JCT Core Advisory Group?
A: The JCT Core Advisory Group is a volunteer group of parents who work in conjunction with school staff to plan school events, oversee the school PTO and introduce new suggestions for our school. Our primary school staff contacts are Mrs. Carolyn Carter, Mrs. Judy Britt and Mrs. Kimberly Bills. We must have Mrs. Carter's approval on anything the group plans for the school.
Q: Why should I join the JCT Core Advisory Group?
A: This answer may vary for every parent. Our current group of parents joined with the hopes of helping to make JCT an exciting place for our children where they will be inspired and enjoy learning. We also want to support the continual improvement of our Jackson-Madison County public school system.
Q: What happens at the Core Advisory Group meetings?
A: Our group discusses the events we are planning and reviews what is involved to make our events a success. Each parent does what work they can, on their own time, to make the events happen. This work may include making phone calls, getting needed items, scheduling parent volunteers, etc. Some examples of current Core Advisory Group projects are:
  • Design and ordering of JCT t-shirts to be sold to students/faculty
  • 2nd Annual Career Fair
  • PTO Membership Drive
  • Planning fundraising ideas/events
  • Recruiting Parent Volunteers
Q: How often does the Core Advisory Group meet and how long will the meetings last?
A: Meetings are generally held once a month in the school's conference room and last about an hour.
Q: What times are the Core Advisory Group meetings held?
A: Meetings are held at various times. Past meeting times have been 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. We work together to choose a meeting time that is convenient for the most members. We cannot always schedule all meetings to meet every members needs, but we do make every effort to do so. If you are willing to participate, we will try to work with you.
Q: What if I cannot attend every Core Advisory Group meeting?
A: Every member of the Core Advisory Group is not present at every meeting. We do ask that if you plan to be involved you try to attend as many meetings as possible. Communication can also take place between group members by e-mail and/or phone. New suggestions/ideas can also be added to the meeting agenda by e-mailing them to Chastity Singleton at chaz1@jaxnet.net at least two days before the scheduled meeting.
